Luna Lovegood remains one of the most beloved characters in the Harry Potter series. Dreamy, fiercely loyal, and completely unbothered by what others think, she captured hearts from the moment she first appeared in Order of the Phoenix. Fans have long wondered about her life after Hogwarts—and specifically, who she married. The answer is Rolf Scamander, a fellow naturalist and the grandson of the legendary Newt Scamander.
Here’s everything we know about Luna Lovegood husband, their shared passion for magical creatures, and the quiet, adventurous life they built together.

Who Is Rolf Scamander?
Rolf Scamander belongs to one of the wizarding world’s most respected families. He is the grandson of Newt Scamander, the famous magizoologist and author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Porpentina Goldstein. Like his grandfather, Rolf dedicated his life to studying magical creatures. By the 2010s he had risen to the position of Chief Consulting Magizoologist for the Daily Prophet.
J.K. Rowling revealed in a 2007 interview that Luna married “a fellow naturalist and grandson of the great Newt Scamander (Rolf).” He is described as more sociable than Luna yet still eccentric enough to understand her completely. Their connection makes perfect sense—both see the world through a lens of curiosity and wonder rather than convention.
How Luna and Rolf Found Each Other
Unlike many of her friends who married schoolmates, Luna’s romance came later. After leaving Hogwarts she became a highly respected magizoologist, travelling the globe to discover and classify new species. It was during these travels that she met Rolf. They bonded over a shared love of the strange and the overlooked—exactly the kind of partnership Luna always deserved.
Their wedding was characteristically Luna. According to a Daily Prophet piece by Rita Skeeter, she wore a dress decorated with rainbows and spangles and a tiara made of silver unicorn horns. Rolf’s shocked expression at first sight of the outfit became the stuff of (lightly mocking) legend, and readers even voted it “Most Hideous Outfit of the Year.” Luna, of course, would have been delighted.
Family Life and Their Twin Sons
Luna and Rolf eventually settled into family life and welcomed twin boys: Lorcan and Lysander Scamander. The twins arrived considerably later than the children of Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione. Their home was filled with stories of far-off creatures, half-finished research notes, and the gentle chaos that comes from two parents who still chase the unknown.

Life as Magizoologists and Lasting Legacy
Together Luna and Rolf continued the Scamander tradition of globetrotting in search of rare beasts. Luna became famous for discovering and classifying many new species, though she finally accepted that the Crumple-Horned Snorkack was one of her father’s inventions. They attended the 2014 Quidditch World Cup together, where Rolf was spotted holding Luna’s hand—possibly to stop her from putting on one of her more spectacular event hats.
Their story feels right. Luna never needed a dramatic high-school romance. She needed someone who looked at the same strange world she did and said, “Yes, let’s go find out more.”
In conclusion, Luna Lovegood’s husband is Rolf Scamander—a quiet, steady match for one of the most extraordinary witches of her generation. Their life together proves that the best love stories in the wizarding world are not always the loudest ones. Sometimes they are simply two kindred spirits walking into the unknown, hand in hand, still looking for the next impossible creature.
